着想源は、19世紀ヴィクトリア朝時代のスモーキングキャップ。英国紳士が室内でタバコを嗜む際、髪に匂いが移るのを防ぐために用いられていた、きわめて私的で機能的な被り物である。喫煙後に女性の前へ戻る際の配慮や、室内での装いに対する意識。その背景には、装いと所作が一体となった当時の美意識があった。

HICOSAKAは、この歴史的文脈をそのまま再現するのではなく、現代の被り物として再編集する道を選んだ。円筒的なクラウン構造をベースに、天井へ中折れのニュアンスを与えることで、クラシックな輪郭に立体的な緊張感を加えている。室内用という枠を越え、日常の装いに自然と溶け込むフォルムへと進化させた。

素材には、リサイクルウールフラノを採用。柔らかく空気を含んだ質感でありながら、表情はあくまで端正。柄はグレンチェックのみとし、過度な装飾を排することで、英国的な品格と構造の美しさを静かに際立たせている。

この帽子は、視線を集めるためのものではない。
身だしなみや振る舞いを整えるという、かつて当たり前だった価値観を、フォルムとして現代に引き継ぐための存在である。

The starting point is the smoking cap of Victorian England.
A deeply personal and functional object — worn by the British gentleman while smoking indoors to prevent the smell from settling into his hair. The consideration shown upon returning to the company of women. The consciousness brought to dress even within the home. Behind it all, an aesthetic in which manner and appearance were inseparable.
HICOSAKA chose not to reproduce this history, but to re-edit it as something wearable today.
The cylindrical crown serves as the structural foundation, while a centre-dent nuance introduced at the top adds three-dimensional tension to the classic silhouette — a quiet drama built into the form itself. The indoor origins have been left behind; what remains is a shape that integrates naturally into everyday dressing.
The material is recycled wool flannel — soft and air-filled in hand, yet composed and precise in character. The colourway is glen check, and glen check only. By removing every unnecessary element, the dignity and structural beauty of a British sensibility are allowed to surface quietly and without effort.
This hat was not made to draw attention.
It exists to carry forward, in physical form, a value that was once entirely ordinary: the idea that how one presents oneself — how one conducts oneself — is itself a kind of discipline.
A hat is not only for adorning the exterior.
